The month of April has many holidays but one that truly stands out is Easter. You’ll be happy to know that the Easter holiday is right around the corner, which means it’s time for you to do some planning around the anticipated long weekend. Regardless of whether you celebrate Easter or not, this time of year makes it difficult not to feel delighted.

You can join in on the famous egg hunts, attend a church service, create arts and craft and of course, spend some time outdoors with family and friends.

Whatever you choose to do, here’s some additional ideas you may want to consider:

Connect with your family and friends from anywhere around the world

Thanks to technology, gone are the days when distance mattered. Why not bring back the joyful spirit of Easter and reminisce around the many times you would celebrate this day in your childhood.  You can host a virtual Easter egg hunt, using video conferencing apps such as Zoom  or Skype. Moving the hunt online is simpler than it may seem. All you need to do is plan your Easter theme and prepare the hunt by creating clues and riddles, then generate a meeting link, add your participants and get hunting.

You can also have a virtual brunch over video conferencing by sharing recipes for traditional dishes and setting up a time to meet and enjoy a meal together whilst on the call.

To turn things up a notch, you can also create a themed digital playlist. Use music streaming apps such as Spotify or watch a classic movie together on Showmax.

Have an eventful day outdoors

There’s always something happening in your neighbourhood. By simply going to your search engine, or even visiting your local community, you can explore what events and activities are taking place in your area. This is a good time to explore how others celebrate the holiday and create shared memories.

You and your family can consider attending the following events:

  • 1 April 2023 – Easter Picnic, Modderfontein Bird and Sculpture Park.   Y Partake in fun games and activities, sit back and enjoy relaxing music as well as create an Easter basket with treats to take home.
  • 6 April 2023 – Rand Easter Show, Nasrec. Expect a wide range of thrilling entertainment, local exhibitors, carnival rides and games for the entire family.
  • 11 April 2023– The Ruff Nutterz, Imhoff Sports Complex in Newlands, Cape Town. You don’t want to miss out on the largest inflatable obstacle course, which is open for kids and adults. It includes 30 obstacles with massive slides, climbing walls, hanging rails, balance balls and slippery slides.
  • 7 April 2023– Music Experience at the Terrace Rooftop, Cape Town. Start the long weekend with sundowners at a rooftop party. You can immerse yourself in various music genres, while you meet new people and enjoy the sunset.

Book travel and accommodation or stay indoors and get creative

If you’re planning to travel for Easter, use your smartphone to book your travel and accommodation. You can search for flights, hotels and rental cars using various travel booking apps, such as Booking.com, Airbnb, Gautrain, Uber and more.

For those who want to stay home, there’s also lots to do. Easter is filled with traditions which extends to the dinner table. If you’re wanting to go all out, why not try out new recipes? The air fryer recipes  app is perfect for those who love tasty, crispy, and healthy meals. You can also use the Pick n Pay ASAP delivery app for smart and convenient shopping.

Lastly, your family can get involved in arts and craft. You can get DIY project ideas from Pinterest and purchase supplies using online shopping apps such as Amazon or Etsy.

Get your Easter bucket list ready for this coming long weekend by connecting with friend’s you haven’t seen in a long time, spend time outdoors exploring festivities in your city, try new recipes or travel locally. You can plan around these ideas and more, by simply using your smartphone.
