Nokia Power Earbuds Lite Review

I was sent a pair of Nokia Power Earbuds Lite to test out and use during a meeting with HMD Global (The home of Nokia South Africa) recently. With the new norm of working from home, a good pair of Earbuds are needed to ensure you can connect with the team remotely. Is the Nokia Power Earbuds Lite the answer? Let’s take a closer look.

Design:

The Nokia Power Earbuds Lite comes in a soft touch matt case, which not only stores the Earbuds safely but also charges them too.

The case is pocket-sized so it can be kept in your pocket during the day or even thrown in your bag.

Opening the case, the Power Earbuds Lite are revealed together with 4 led lights, which tell you the power status of the case.

The Earbuds themselves have a gloss black body with a charging status light to indicate whether they are fully charged or charging.

With a teardrop design, the Earbuds look similar to what Samsung has made in their Buds range. The Power Earbuds Lite are in-ear earbuds and fit nicely in the ear.

Nokia has stuck to a colour scheme inspired by the Nordic nature. So you can choose from either black, white or grey. The Nokia Power Earbuds come in 100% recyclable paper packaging as well!

Use:

Setting up the Nokia Power Earbuds Lite with your device is really easy. Simply open the case and remove the Earbuds from the charging case. The Earbuds will start to flash blue. Then search for them in your Bluetooth devices. Once connected, you are able to listen to music, or take calls thanks to the built-in microphone, which worked really well in my meeting. Thanks to universal Bluetooth compatibility, the earbuds can connect to any device that supports Bluetooth!

The Earbuds are IPX7 waterproof so you can take them to the gym or even in the rain. They can even handle 1m of water for up to 30 minutes!

Thanks to the ergonomic fit, I was able to wear them for hours without even needing to remove them. You do get different sized rubber ear tips to help you get the right fit but I didn’t need to swap the standard ear tips.

You can simply tap on the glossy part of the Earbuds to pause or play a song, so you don’t need to reach for your phone. A double-tap increases the volume and a triple tap skips a song.

Sound quality:

The Power Earbuds Lite produces crystal clear audio with rich tones and decent bass, given their size. I was able to hear clearly in the meeting and the microphone did a good job as well, allowing the participants to hear me.

Battery life and charging:

Dropping the Power Earbuds Lite in the case, in the dedicated left and right slot, a red light will turn on, to let you know that the Earbuds are charging. Once fully charged, this light will turn blue. The battery indicator light on the case will also turn on and this will show you the level of the case from 1 light to 4 lights. The case is charged via the USB Type-C port on the rear.

The Earbuds will last 5 hours on one charge and a fully charged case can charge the Earbuds 6 times. So you are looking at 35 hours of playtime if you pop them in the charging case when needed. If you do need more playtime, there is a bigger version, though the playtime on the Light is perfect for most users!

Price:

Priced at R1499, the Power Earbuds Lite, comes in at the middle range of Bluetooth earbud pricing. Yes, you do get cheaper wireless earbuds and you do get more expensive ones. I myself have used a range of cheaper and more expensive Earbuds and Nokia has priced their Earbuds well.

Verdict:

Overall, the Nokia Power Earbuds Lite offers an enjoyable wireless audio experience. From connecting, listening, carrying, and charging, the experience has been on par for the price point. The Earbuds offer decent audio and the microphone works well for hands-free calls.

So I would say the Nokia Power Earbuds Lite provides a good alternative for hands-free meetings and audio on the go!
