Volkswagen continues to lead the way in the Virtual Reality space

Following the resounding success of the Tiguan and Polo Virtual Reality (VR) Experiences, Volkswagen South Africa has once again partnered with leading South African virtual and augmented reality specialists, New Reality, to localise the VR Experience for the soon-to-be-launched T-Cross.

With the fully interactive T-Cross VR Experience, Volkswagen customers are able to completely customise their vehicle and it also takes them on virtual test drives, from the comfort of the Dealership.

This third iteration of Volkswagen and New Reality’s ground-breaking VR technology now boasts a more distinctly local flavour, with the introduction of ‘Sibs’ – a virtual navigator, which guides customers throughout the VR Experience. Sibs assists customers to quickly and easily pick out and interchange their favourite paint and interior colours, trimmings, finishes, accessories and more. These choices are then viewable in the Virtual Space – in real time – from all angles, from inside and outside the vehicle.

Once customers are satisfied with their fully customised virtual vehicle, Sibs then guides them on an adventure of their choice, allowing them to experience the many features the Volkswagen T-Cross has to offer.

“The customer experience is of utmost importance to the Volkswagen Brand. New technologies like VR are just some of the ways we are looking at in terms of the future of vehicle sales,” says Meredith Kelly, Head of Marketing for Volkswagen Brand.

New Reality CEO, Steve Pinto, comments, “VR is undoubtedly the future. For those brands with the foresight to embrace it, it’s already the present. Volkswagen has yet again had the courage and commitment to embrace innovation that allows New Reality to incorporate VR in new and exciting ways.”

The new Volkswagen T-Cross is Volkswagen’s first compact SUV and also Volkswagen’s most connected car. The T-Cross Comfortline, Highline and R-Line models come standard with the VW Connect dataplug which connects with a smartphone app, allowing smarter control and integration with the owner’s vehicle and countless benefits for Volkswagen customers.

The T-Cross will only be available for physical test-drives from
21 September 2019, but until then it can be test-driven, customised and pre-ordered in a fully interactive VR Experience at the following Volkswagen Dealers:

  • McCarthy Constantia Kloof (Johannesburg);
  • McCarthy Westgate (Johannesburg);
  • Hoopers VW (Durban);
  • Tavcor VW (Port Elizabeth);
  • Lindsay Saker Bloemfontein (Bloemfontein); and
  • Barons Tokai (Cape Town).
