Dell Alienware laptops – for more than gaming

By Chris Buchanan, Client Solutions Director, Dell Technologies South Africa

Dell Technologies’ Alienware gaming laptops are widely recognised as premier, super-powerful devices that offer gamers incredible performance and stunning visuals. Dell has standardised on Intel CPUs across the Alienware range, with the two organisations collaborating closely to achieve market-leading gaming performance.

However, the usage potential of Dell’s Alienware gaming laptops goes beyond gaming to a range of applications which need to handle resource-intensive tasks.

For example, content editors prefer using a full-featured desktop PC, as video editing makes extensive use of a computer’s resources as it speeds up these tasks and enable users to run video editing programmes.

Gaming laptops are also excellent for musicians, sound engineers and DJs. Like video editing, making and rendering music is a strain on your computer. If the system is not fast enough, software like FL Studio or Ableton Live may freeze or taken inordinate amounts of time to process tasks.

Graphic design and animation is another example, with gaming laptops enabling users to quickly design 3D models. Plus, designers can see their creations at their best on a monitor with exceptional lighting and true colours.

There are more applications, such as programming, viewing high-definition media, dual booting and using virtual machines.

As a leading supplier of gaming laptops and desktops, Dell Technologies recognises that these devices can be used for many diverse purposes. The recent launch of three new models endorses this commitment. Here’s what you can look forward to:

The Dell Alienware Aurora R16 has been given a substantial performance overhaul, becoming Alienware’s most powerful desktop. Next-gen Intel Core CPUs have been added, along with up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics. Its cooler and quieter with a new design that offers larger air intakes and exhausts.

The Aurora R16 about 40% smaller than the Aurora R15, with a stunning design inspired by science fiction – and it is just as upgradable as its predecessor. Even better, the chassis is lit up by three independent AlienFX lighting zones which can be customised to your liking across no fewer than 16 million colours. The newly updated Alienware Command Centre 6.0 introduces a more appealing user interface and is designed to manage your entire ecosystem of Alienware products.

The Dell Alienware m18 has hit the market as Alienware’s most powerful gaming laptop, designed for gamers (and others) who want incredible power and performance with stunning visuals. It features an incredible 16:10 aspect ratio 18” screen for expansive views as well as graphics technologies intended to complete the visual gaming experience in-game and out, including built-in hardware MUX switches.

Engineered to maximise power, the new m18 features the latest powerful 65W 13th Gen Intel core processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX laptop graphics with up to 175W TGP and additional headroom. No matter what you’re using it for, you will experience improved performance during periods of peak CPU usage thanks to Intel Thermal Velocity Boost. The powerful CPU and GPU are supported by an improved Alienware Cryo-Tech cooling technology, with quad fans and a larger vapour chamber. It also features smooth curves that accentuate the continuous stadium shape with bold customisable lighting on the rear, illuminating the hexagon venting pattern.

The Dell Alienware x16 gaming laptop represents the accumulation of all the R&D Dell has put into gaming technology since 1996. Based on the new Legend 3 industrial design, it’s simply leading the charge in gaming laptop design excellence. The x16 is engineered to be Dell’s thinnest gaming laptop and features innovative designs, technologies and industry-first advantages.

These include Dell’s best execution of AlienFX lighting on any Alienware laptop to date thanks to a special degree of luminosity and animation effects. Another Alienware first is that the x16 boasts 6-speaker spatial surround, co-developed with Dolby to deliver exceptional sound. The Legend 3 industrial design includes simplified and ergonomic forms with premium metals like anodised aluminium, magnesium alloy and stainless steel for structural rigidity and thinness while preserving performance.

So, if you need high performance, powerful processors, amazing graphics and ample RAM, the choice is yours. Whichever one you choose; you will be able to run the most demanding games and applications with ease.
