MOTORSPORT enthusiasts are on countdown – the inaugural #AutoCIRCUS powered by AutoTrader featuring Gymkhana GRiD final roars into South Africa on November 18 and 19 to take place at Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World, Ekurhuleni.

This is history in the making as the Gymkhana GRiD graces African soil for the first time as part of a festival that holds significant opportunities to showcase local motoring entertainment.

“These events have a huge global appeal and AutoTrader is ecstatic to have the Gymkhana GRiD final on our shores. Given AutoTrader’s position as the trusted motoring marketplace, the AutoCircus festival means we can interact with motor fans and customers face-to-face,” said AutoTrader CEO George Mienie.

Never head of drifting or the Gymkhana GRiD before? Here’s what to expect

The two-day #AutoCIRUCS festival boasts competitive racing  by twenty-three international drivers, thirty local drivers; a 40-strong exhibition that includes action features like the XDL stunt bikes, drift trike rides, skake and BMX rodeos; remote controlled buggy racing as well as car displays from hot rods to stance cars.

Mienie says the AutoTrader stand will offer fans the opportunity to win golden tickets and access to an exclusive autograph signing with the world’s best drifters. Leading drivers include Ken Block (Ford Fiesta ST RX43), Petter Solberg (PSRX Volkswagen ) and Luke Woodham (Nissan S14a 200sx).

Block boasts a string of drift and rallycross championship wins, the latest being the 2016 and 2017 FIA World Rallycross Championships. Solberg is another repeat champion – a two-time World Rallycross champion, motorsport’s first double discipline FIA world champion and a 2016 Gymkhana GRiD AWD champion.Woodham is a three-time Gymkhana GRiD champion.

Mienie says AutoTrader has a long history with drifting in South Africa.  “We sponsored the SupaDrift Series for five years in a bid to grow the sport from a regional, single-event competition in to a nine-stop annual national tour. We are committed to developing South Africa’s motorsport and motor entertainment – the growth in drifting popularity reflects that investment,” he says.

Since its inception six years ago, the Gymkhana GRiD finals have been held in Greece, Spain and the UK. In its first African stop at the #AutoCIRCUS powered by the AutoTrader festival, the 2017 finals will take place at Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World, Ekurhuleni, on November 18 and 19.
