Handling and navigating within the Huawei Band 6 does not require a BAC +12. After a few minutes, it’s relatively easy to understand how it works and the interactions offered Huawei’s in-house operating system. Already, your main interface displays different information depending on the framework used. Then, the single physical button gives you one-click access to a menu list.
The Right Training
Training, training history, heart rate, Sp02, activity history, sleep, stress, breathing exercises, music, notifications, weather, stopwatch, timer, alarm, find my phone and finally settings: here is the exhaustive list of menus, which already gives you a good idea of the features offered by the bracelet.
What You Need
From the main interface, you can slide your finger from left to right, or vice versa, to access certain windows more quickly: heart rate, stress level, weather forecast, music control or even the number of not. A swipe from the top to the bottom brings up the quick settings. Do not disturb, find my phone, screen on, alarm and general settings.
Swiping from the bottom to the top scrolls through your latest notifications, which you can then clear. Finally, a slide from left to right acts as a rollback. This system is at the same time simple, intuitive and easy to use, combined with an interface which is pleasing to the eye and to use.
To turn on the screen, you have two choices: systematically click on the button, or activate the “Activate by raising your hand” feature much more practical. So when you turn your wrist to look at your huawei band 6, the screen will light up by itself. We would perhaps have preferred a bit more reactivity.
Choosing Your Options
The Huawei Health application accompanies you on a daily basis to consult the data collected by the watch. Named “Health” once downloaded to your phone, this app has good ergonomics which makes it easier to use. You can find your exercise history and all the corresponding data (duration, average pace, average pace, steps, and calories burned, average heart rate).
The main interface gives pride of place to medical information via a system of rectangular tiles (sleep, weight, stress, Sp02, exercise history and heart rate). You can obviously change the tiles with others according to your wishes and needs.
Huawei Health also allows you to choose from the hundreds of dials (in the “Device” tab), to set an activity reminder (notification on the bracelet when you are sitting for too long), to continuously activate the rhythm monitoring heart rate or to manage all notification permissions by application (WhatsApp, Messages, Calendar, etc.). Recommended sports programs are even on the menu.
A Good Follow-Up of Activities for Athletes
For activities and data collection, the Huawei Band 6 provides good overall monitoring. In terms of sensors, the bracelet relies on an accelerometer, a gyroscope and a heart rate sensor. It can of course show you your heart rate continuously and during your sports sessions, but not only.
The Huawei Band 6 also provides you with a measurement of Sp02 (the oxygen saturation rate) as well as an estimate of V02Max, or the maximum oxygen consumption, after a sports session. After jogging, you can also find the number of calories burned, the number of steps taken or a complete monitoring of your heart rate in addition to the classic data. In total, the device supports up to nine types of activities: outdoor running, indoor running, outdoor walking, indoor walking, indoor cycling, indoor swimming, rope jumping, elliptical trainer, and rower. But in all, it is able to recognize 96. To do this, just press “Others” in the “Workouts” section, and start your session.
Last Words
For swimmers, pay attention to the type of pool you are swimming in: the Huawei Band 6 did not recognize the 50-meter pool. Each round trip of 100 meters was counted as a distance of 50 meters. In the end, the bracelet indicates a total distance of 900 meters, or 600 meters less than the reality. For outdoor running, the distances traveled and calculated by the bracelet seem to be fairly well respected.
