The comfort your television can bring you is incomparable; whether it be for a binge watching session of your favourite series, or a new series that has you on the edge of your couch, or you’ve simply turned your television on in the background while you prepare dinner in the kitchen. Never did this source of comfort ring truer than this year. 2020; the year the unexpected happened, where the abnormal far outweighed the normal. It was our TVs that brought about some normality in an otherwise uncertain world.
The theme for this year’s World Television Day, TV makes a difference, celebrated on Saturday 21 November speaks to its role in 2020. “Television continues to be the single largest source of video consumption globally. While screen sizes may have changed, and consumers are able to create, post, stream and consume content on different platforms, TV remains number one. The interaction between emerging and traditional forms of broadcast creates a great opportunity to raise awareness about the important issues facing communities and the world at large, which is exactly what we saw happen this year,” explains Jaco Joubert, brand manager for high-end television company, SKYWORTH.
It was in 1996 when the United Nations (UN) general assembly declared the 21st of November World Television Day. The UN recognised television as having an increased impact on decision making as well as being an ambassador for the entertainment industry. Television is a symbol of communication and globalisation that educates, informs, entertains, and influences our decisions and opinions.
Of course, to celebrate World Television Day, it helps to have a world-class television. SKYWORTH has just launched the SXC9800, a premium television with gaming-level specifications as well as the SUC9300 and SUC9300 Pro. The brand also announced the latest addition to its high-end offering, Android 10, and all that comes with it including Far Field, access to more content in the Google Play Store, improved hardware and speed, larger memory, AIoT, Cast Play and Two Way Bluetooth Transmission. This is the third first, after Android and AI TV, that the brand has launched in the country, and is testament to their dedication to perfecting the smart home ecosystem, creating an all-inclusive and ultra-connected experience for consumers.
Getting into the spirit of World Television Day Joubert shares some did you know? TV facts:
- Did you know that there are 1.67 billion households with a TV worldwide?
- Did you know that the amount spent on TV advertising last year globally was a whopping 166.3 billion US dollars?
- Did you know there are a 195 million Netflix subscribers worldwide?
- Did you know that 652 million people watched the moon landing in 1969?
- Did you know that 2 billion people watch Princess Diana’s funeral on their televisions in 1997?
“TV touches countless viewers around the world – millions of entertaining, inspiring, and informative stories, just waiting to be discovered. It’s been found that on average people watch 3.5 hours of television a day. Whether it’s news, sports, concerts, series, or movies we turn to television to entertain and inform. Knowing there is a day devoted to its higher purposes allows us to feel better about our decision to indulge in a little TV at the end of the day, especially after the year we’ve had,” Joubert concludes.
The SKYWORTH SXC9800 and SUC9300 Pro will be available in market from January 2021 and will come in two different sizes, 55” and 65”, whilst the SUC9300 is currently available and comes in three different sizes, 50”, 55” and 65.”
