Now in its second year, the VW Vivonation Festival, a bespoke music and lifestyle event, saw over 5 500 (700 more than last year’s event) people attending over the weekend (6-7 April 2019).

The 2019 line-up included the likes of AKA, Shane Eagle, DJ Kent, Simmy, Rouge, Sjava, Sho Madjozi, Busiswa, Mlindo The Vocalist and DJ Zan-D.

Dwarfed by giant shipping containers, the inspired festival site was a maze of activity with exciting things to do at every corner. From the shisa nyama to the beach bar, the graffiti car, Trace’s Silent disco and the elevated viewing deck, there was something for everyone and fans had the time of their lives.

From the stage one could see a mass of dancing bodies and fans soaking up the sun letting go to thumping house and hip-hop vibes. At the activation areas there were throngs of enthusiastic fans  experiencing the Polo Vivo, either scream-laughing on YFM’s hair-raising autocross track or donning a prop and belting out tunes on camera whilst in a Polo Vivo, all with the aim of winning a road trip weekend away.

“We are excited about the record turnout at this year’s VIVOnation”, commented Meredith Kelly, Marketing Communications Manager for Volkswagen South Africa. “Whilst the Vivos and the line-up were of course a hit with the fans in attendance, it’s the city that we’ve constructed within a container yard that makes this festival so unique. We also took the opportunity to unveil the brand new Polo Vivo Sound Edition at this year’s festival.”

The Polo Vivo Sound Edition, which will be available from the third quarter, is a celebration of the love of music as well as the success of the Polo Vivo brand in South Africa.
