Hi-Tec sent me a pair of high performance hiking books called The Hi-Tec Trail Ox Chukkas. After testing them out, here are my thoughts:
The Hi-Tec Trail Ox Chukkas are mid boots which means they are not as rigid as full ankle boots but offer better ankle support than a normal shoe. The Trail Ox Chukka’s are suitable for walking on trails and also heavy hiking with even some running in between.
Slipping on the boot, you can feel straight away that the boot is really comfortable and rugged. The padded collar and tongue provides extreme comfort to ensure you get the most of your walk. Getting the right fit is important and the lacing system allows you to adjust the shoe for a more personal fit. The Leather upper together with the ballistic leather protection ensures that your feet are well protected.
As a child you would jump from rock to rock in a light river and find that your socks and shoes got wet. You will be happy to hear that these boots make use of Dri-Tec i-shield waterproof and breathable membranes to ensure that your feet and socks stay dry while you adventure on. The leather outside is coated with i-shield which resists stains as well repels water and dirt.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk with rubber from a car tire stuck to your shoes? High performance rubber made by Michelin is used for the bottom of the shoe which gives multi surface traction and stability for even the toughest of conditions. Going down a mountain with loose rocks in normal shoes, I found that I often slide. This is not the case in these Michelin gripped boots which gives you the confidence to know that you aren’t going to slide or slip down the mountain.
Overall the Hi-Tec Trail OX Chukka is one of the most advanced hiking boots that I have seen. At R1999,00, you are getting a boot that will keep you comfortable, dry and safe on any adventure!
