TECNO SPARK 20 Officially Debuts in South Africa

Announced at an unforgettable event, TECNO’s new SPARK 20 device has officially arrived locally

TECNO, the innovative technology brand with operations in over 70 global markets, has marked the arrival of its new SPARK 20 smartphone in South Africa at an official launch event.

In attendance at the event were TECNO’s valued partners including representatives from the mobile operators, retailers, media, influencers, and other tech enthusiasts. Taking centre stage, the SPARK 20 was described by the evening’s host Elana Bredenkamp as “the Everything phone”, who added, “This is a phone that is beautiful to look at, hardworking and ticks all the boxes. You can run your business from this phone and take action shots of your daughter’s hockey game. There’s nothing this phone can’t do.”

Unpacking the Features and Specs

Powered by a MediaTek G85 gaming processor, the SPARK 20 is packed with big storage of 256GB and 16GB RAM (8GB + 8GB extended through Memory Fusion technology). Its 6.56-inch display accompanies a 90Hz refresh rate, leading to a stunning visual journey for users. To complement the visuals, stereo dual speakers complete the all-round user experience, cranking up the volume by 400% from previous iterations.

Photography with the SPARK 20 is a breeze thanks to a 50MP rear camera and an impressive 32MP selfie camera. Three light modes for selfies ensure that pictures worthy for posting to social media, no matter the lighting conditions, are just a button press away. The AI built into the phone’s camera setup also makes capturing perfect photos and videos easy, with the technology doing most of the heavy lifting.

A 5,000mAh battery combined with 18W fast charging mean that you won’t be without your phone for too long. Since phones these days are used for practically everything in life this is a valuable consideration when investing in a new device.

Showcasing Innovative Tech

Alongside the SPARK 20, TECNO showcased many other smartphones at the event. These included others in the SPARK 20 Series, such as the SPARK 20 Pro 5G and SPARK 20P (both available in South Africa in due course), the SPARK 20C and the SPARK GO 2024 (the latter two of which are already available in South Africa from select TECNO retail partners, including Edgars, TFG, Vodacom and others).

Other devices not available in South Africa were also on display, including the CAMON 30, the PHANTOM V Flip, the PHANTOM V Fold, and the PHANTOM Ultimate concept phone (with an extendable, slidable screen for an enhanced visual experience). Even though they are not available in the country, they were being showcased to illustrate TECNO’s innovation, constant pushes in research and development, and technological prowess.

Also highlighted at the event were TECNO’s AIoT products; smart wearables and accessories that bring convenience, ease, and fun to people’s lives. These included Teggie the Dynamic 1 robotic dog, Sonic 1 Buds (which include the world’s first in-ear, half in-ear free switching function), Watch Pro 2, True 1 earbuds, and the MEGABOOK T16 Pro 2024 Ultra laptop. In addition to its smartphones, TECNO is stepping up its AIoT efforts, increasing its focus to bring more availability to its South African fans and integrating the smart tech into people’s lives.

A Memorable Evening

TECNO pulled out all the stops to ensure that the event was breathtaking and memorable, including featuring a laser dance show with pyrotechnics, LED water curtain and aerial dance artist, a fashion show with designer Tshepo Mohlala, beaded artwork from the extremely creative Paul Mukanyi and much more. This was in addition to the innovative tech that was on display. The event touched on more than simply technology, bringing South African culture and fashion to the fore, which TECNO is very conscious and respectful of, seamlessly fusing it with the proceedings.
