On Thursday, 1 November Red Bull Music hosted the SA National Finals of the World 3Style Championships at The Werehouse in Durban. The six South African finalists went head to head to book their spot in the World Finals taking place in Tapei, Taiwan in January 2019, and they all sweated blood to get to have a chance to fight for that one place.
The event was definitely a night to remember with Captain Cleo opening with a stellar set that had the crowd on their feet and ready for the night ahead of musical excellence and turntable tactics. The entertainment didn‘t fall short either as there were performances from Eskei83, DJ Hedspin, Aewon Wolf and ByLwansta, besides the insanely talented competitors.
The competition kicked off at 22:00 with the finalists flaunting their skills and doing their best to one up the other. The competition rules were simple, each DJ had 15 minutes to #PlayWithMusic and showcase at least 3 different music genres. Their task, on the other hand, was much more difficult; they had to prove their ability to get a party jumping while impressing the panel of legendary and highly experienced judges with their mixing, music selection and crowd-pleasing skills to ultimately come out on top if they want to become Champion.
The winner of the night Ameeth Shah, was an all-round crowd pleaser despite the tough competition from his competitors. He ensured that he used all the right tricks to keep the judges hooked on his acquired selection taste.
“All the finalists brought their A-game to the National Finals and totally blew our socks off. I knew the competition would be firece, but they exceeded my expectations. Cant wait to see who will be crowned the World Champion of Red Bull Music 3Style“, says Eskei83 from Dresden, Germany, who won the world final in 2014 and had the pleasure of being a judge last night.
