YouTuber Caspar Lee with gangsters in Cape Town

South African YouTuber, Caspar Lee, who now lives in the UK, recently returned to South Africa to visit some of the gang-infested areas of Cape Town to see what the worlds most dangerous job entails.

While many of Cape Town see only the coastal and safer areas, many live in fear of their lives in areas ruled by gangsters. Thanks to poverty, lack of employment and no prospects of the future, people living in poorer areas join gangs, often at a young age. Gangsters approach the teenagers at school or in the streets and get them to join the gangs as if you are not legally an adult, you often get off really easily.

Caspar Lee joined local law enforcement and headed into the most dangerous areas of Cape Town to see what residents have to live with on a daily basis. Not only did Caspar see how many live in constant fear for their and their family’s lives, he even got the rare chance to sit on a bed with a gangster and ask him a couple of terrifying questions to figure out why he does what he does.

Throughout the experience, it was clear to Caspar that these gangsters don’t feel any remorse when killing other gangsters and unfortunately children, who often get hit with stray bullets. These bullets either kill or leave the kids disabled for life. The Cape Town law enforcement risks their lives on a daily basis when they go into these unsafe areas but they do it to try to make the area safer by confiscating drugs and weapons and hopefully lock up lawbreakers.

On one of the evenings, shots were fired nearby and the law enforcement jumped into action. Caspar ran with them, not knowing what would happen next. Thanks to quick action, the suspect was caught by one of the officers. At one point in the video, Caspar jumps into a moving vehicle to get away from danger and is asked if he is ok.

Watch the videos below to get an idea of how brave you actually have to be to do what the Cape Town Law enforcement do. And I have to say, Caspar too!
