I attended the launch of the Sony Xperia Z2 Phone and Tablet in Cape Town today. I was surprised to get an invite to a Sony event so soon as my last event was less than a month ago. The last event was the launch of the Xperia Z1 Compact, which you can read about here.

Many of you know about the Sony Xperia Z1 which is an unbelievable phone. Sony is releasing the upgrade, the Z2 as well as a Z2 tablet. The Xperia Z2 phone is the world’s best camera and camcorder in a waterproof Smartphone. With a 20.7 MP camera and the ability to capture videos in 4k, this is one powerful device. Many of you would have heard about 4k and how amazing it is. The Z2 is the first phone that can capture videos in 4k and also play back those videos on a 4k ready display. The Z2 phone features a 5.2” Full HD Triluminos display which is crystal clear. Powered with the latest 2.3 GHz quad-core CPU Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor this device is not one to be taken lightly. The Xperia Z2 is also the world’s first phone with digital noise cancelling technology for an immersive audio experience.

The Xperia Z2 tablet has to be the thinnest and lightest tablet that I have ever seen. It feels great in the hand and packs some serious power as well. With a 2.3 GHz quad-core processor, a 10.1” Full HD Triluminos display with Adreno™ 330 GPU and a 6000mAh lithium polymer battery, the Z2 tablet is the perfect multimedia device.

The Z2 phone and tablet are the perfect partners. Content can be streamed from the phone to the tablet or vice versa.

Both devices have a range of camera features which allow you to add cool effects and edit videos right on the phone.

Both devices can be linked up to the Sony Playstation 4. You can use the Z2 phone as an extra screen or even stream games straight to your phone and play away from the TV. Pretty cool if you ask me!

Both devices should be available in April in South Africa. Prices should be similar to the Z1 and Z Tablet prices.

I also got a chance to check out the newest member of the Sony wearable tech family, the SmartBand. The SmartBand consists of the core which is a 24/7 fully waterproof (rated IP582) unit. At the moment, the core can be worn in the SmartBand but in the future there will be other ways to carry the core. The core connects to the Lifelog app on your Sony Xperia phone and basically you can see how active you were, where you went, what pictures you took and how you have been communicating with your world.  Lifelog will also help you set activity goals, monitor your progress and make recommendations to help inform future decisions.
