iFrogz Coda Wireless Headphones + MIC Review

The world is going wireless. Wireless charging, wireless kettles, wireless earbuds and wireless headphones. I already had a look at the iFrogz Impulse Wireless Earbuds which were great for on the go audio. I am now taking a look at the Coda Wireless Headphones also made by iFrogz which offer the design of traditional headphones with the benefits of a wireless package.

Design:

The Coda Wireless Headphones are made of a soft touch plastic, with foam cushioned material ear cups and a closed back design. The headphones feel sturdy and the build quality is very good. Like normal, the headphones extend to accommodate different sized heads. In ear controls on one of the ear cups allow you to adjust volume, change songs and answer calls. There is also a built in mic! The headphones come in a range of colours: Rose Gold, Red, Blue and Black.

Comfort:

At first glance, the Coda Wireless Headphones are comfortable to wear. The cushioned ear cups sit snugly around the ear. While this is ok for someone with smallish ears, I asked someone with larger ears to try them on. The Result: Their ears were sticking out under the headphones and this was not the most comfortable experience. I also found the stretching of the headband, which is made of plastic, creates a bit too much pressure against my head. I did a comparison with my Sony headphones that have a much larger cushion, with a smaller hole in the cushion and a metal headband. What I found is that the Sony ear cups sit on the ear and don’t wrap around it which is more comfortable for me. The pressure of the Sony headphones against my head is also pretty much non-existent. While the Codas are comfortable to wear I found that after long usage, the pressure of the cups against my head, as well as the snug fit around my ears, wasn’t the most comfortable experience. I tend to not wear headphones for long periods so this isn’t the biggest issue.

Audio Experience:

With 40MM drivers, the Coda Wireless Headphones give good bass and clarity. There is no noise cancellation technology but some outside noise is blocked out thanks to the closed back design. While the headphones are closed back, others will be able to hear what you are listening to. I guess you can use the headphones as a pretty decent speaker if you really wanted to. Overall the audio experience is satisfactory.

Connectivity:

To connect the headphones to your device, you can go wireless and use Bluetooth or you can use the provided auxiliary cable in the 3.5mm jack. Connecting to the headphones is as simple as turning them on and then finding the headphones in your Bluetooth devices. The quick start guide tells you how to get the headphones connected and I didn’t have any issues! With a 10 metre wireless range, you can leave your phone and walk around while still jamming away. Note that concrete walls can mess with the connection but I was able to go to the next room and still listen to music clearly.

Usage:

I like that the headphones are not bulky or heavy. The size of the ear cups are compact so this means that the headphones take up less space in your bag and also aren’t heavy if you want to carry them around your neck. I have been making use of them all over home and when travelling!

Battery:

The built in battery is good to go up to 10 hours of battery life. You will be able to get a day or even 2 of usage. Charging is done via a micro USB port on the headphones so you can always give them a boost while at the office or even via a power bank.

What is in the box:

Besides for the headphones, you get a micro USB cable, auxiliary cable and manual inside the easy to open packaging.

Price:

The Coda Wireless Headphones sell for R499 on Takealot. Under R500 for a pair of headphones is relatively cheap these days. Wireless headphones sell from around R399 up so R499 is a very good price.

Verdict:

Overall I enjoyed using the iFrogz Coda Wireless Headphones. The audio experience was satisfactory and the headphones are definitely built to last. My only concern was the comfort factor and the fact that others can hear your music. For R499, you get a lot for your money so the Coda Wireless Headphones are definitely worth the small cost.
