Today we are looking at the Reebok’s FloatZig 1, a running shoe with industry-leading performance and energy return, suited for beginners to elite runners. While I am no runner, I know when a shoe is comfy or not. Lately I have found myself running short distances with my dog, so when I was offered the chance to take a look at the recently launched Reebok FloatZig 1, I jumped at the chance to see if my limited running can be improved, which may encourage me to start running further distances than just a block!
Watch the below to see the shoes up close and in action:
The FloatZig 1 is the first shoe out from the FloatZig line, which brings the zigzag midsole design of the Reebok Zig shoes and pairs it with Reebok’s FloatRide Energy line.
Unboxing:
Let’s start by unboxing and taking a look at the FloatZig 1’s! Starting with the cardboard box, you get the typical shoe box design, with Reebok branding. Lifting up the lid of the box, you get the shoes with protective paper, nothing out of the ordinary.
The Shoes:
Picking up the FloatZig 1’s, one can tell how lightweight they are. This is thanks to the premium lightweight Floatride Energy foam technology that makes up the midsole. The Floatride midsole not only keeps the shoe light, but offers soft cushioning, energy return and a smoother transition. The midsole is finished off with a geometric design in white with orange ascents. The upper of the shoe is made from mesh to ensure that it is breathable. The upper comes in a light blue colour with white and orange pattern reflective overlays, which ensures that you are visible even when doing an early morning run. The tongue is firm with lots of cushioning to provide comfort and keep it in place. The full-length rubber outsole with its strategic foam panels provides cushioning to absorb the impact as you hit the ground. There is firm support around the ankles to offer support and comfort.
To do their part for the environment, Reebok has ensured that the FlatZig 1’s are made with at least 30% recycled or repurposed materials!
The Tech:
Behind the FloatZig 1, is a range of tech added to revolutionise your run with features designed to push the boundaries of what a running shoe can be. Highlights of the FloatZig 1 include:
- Floatride Energy Foam & Zig Tech Technology: Offers a lightweight, responsive energy return, transforming every step into a leap towards your personal best.
- Engineered Mesh Upper with Reflective Overlays: Maximises breathability and ensures visibility, keeping you safe and comfortable, day or night.
- Targeted Foam Panels: Strategically placed for added comfort and a secure fit, enabling you to focus on the joy of the run.
The Run Test:
The fit of the FloatZig 1 is snug and offers a shoe that moves with the foot so that you can focus on the running without needing to deal with discomfort from stiff shoes. The shoe offers a decent amount of bounce and offers a comfy feel for those runs, whether short or long. I found there was lots of support for the foot, and enough cushioning around the ankles as well. The outsole did a great job at absorbing impacts and directing them away from the sole of my foot.
Price and Verdict:
The Reebok FloatZig 1 is a great pair of running shoes, whether you are training on the daily, chasing your PB, or the occasional runner. They can easily be worn for a short or long run and then to meet up with friends, thanks to their fun looks.
