One thing I know for sure, and that is smartphone screen protectors will always get scratched, no matter how careful you are. I was browsing online and I came across the website https://filmcutter.co.za/ who sell a Protective Film Cutting Machine called the AM.CO.ZA V-Auto Film Cutting Machine. The machine is actually made by Advanced Machinery who I have done some work with in the past when I reviewed their handheld heat press. I ordered the machine from the Film Cutter website, and it arrived really quickly. Let’s find out more about the machine and how it works.

Here is a 1-minute demo:

The Film Cutting Machine lets you quickly and easily cut protection, privacy and printable films for your portable devices. Using Wi-Fi, the film cutter accesses a cloud device library, called the v6-FilmLibrary, that contains templates for multiple devices from over 240 brands! Since these templates are stored online in the cloud, as new devices are released, the template database can grow, and you will have access to them. The library contains templates for a range of different devices: Smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, health monitor watches, gamepads, cameras, ebooks, action cameras, and more! Simply put, any device under 120×180mm, with a screen or flat surface, that you would like to protect – would probably be available in this comprehensive device library. The Film Cutting Machine comes with a free year of unlimited access to the film library, and after this, if you purchase 1000 or more Protective Film sheets from AM.CO.ZA you receive a complimentary year access. (A saving of around R1000).

The machine can be used with a wide range of screen protector films, for a range of different purposes. There is a clear, matte, blue screen, privacy, and printable screen protector film, all for sale via the film cutter website.

What does it cost?

The machine retails for around R11 000 and a pack of 50 sheets of screen protector films ranges from around R800 to R3000. I have a pack of 50 clear screen protectors which works out to R16,75 each. The machine does not need a computer to operate as all the templates are accessible via the cloud and the machine is operated via the touch screen. So all one needs to operate is the machine, film, Wi-Fi and power, and you can cut and sell your own screen protectors, making this machine perfect for someone looking to run a business. The AM.CO.ZA V-Auto Film Cutting Machine with Wi-Fi Connection is the simplest way to cut screen protection film, for yourself and your clients.

Setting up and making a screen protector:

Right, now we are going to get the machine set up and see how it performs. It is a DIY machine and some setup is required, if you do need help, then a technician at a call-out fee can be arranged!

In the box you will find: the film cutting machine, an anti-slip pad, a Squeegee, a stylus, a set of blades, and a cloth to clean your phone.

Once removed from the box, simply plug in the power cables, install the blade and then hit the power button.

I found the machine easy to set up and the interface on the touch screen really does make the Film Cutter easy to operate.

You will need to connect to a Wi-Fi network, which is super easy thanks to the large touch screen and on-screen keyboard. Then tap on product and either register or login.

To make a screen protector select the appropriate product category, then browse and select the brand and then choose your device. Then insert a piece of film into the film cutter and tap on cut, and the machine will cut out the screen protector for your selected device. Depending on the size and type of product, you are looking at anywhere up to 4/5 minutes.

Once the film cutter is done cutting out the screen protector, it is ready to be applied to your device. Use the anti-slip pad to keep your device from moving around, peel off the screen protector and place it over the display. Then lift the back end and slowly remove the peel and use the squeegee to apply the screen protector and remove any bubbles. The screen protector is now applied and the cloth is used to clean the display.

I made some screen protectors for my smartwatch, and the process was quick and easy. I was able to get six screen protectors from one sheet!

The whole process from setup to a successfully applied screen protector was really quick and easy. With this machine, there is no need to have screen protectors lying in your shop, when you can simply make whatever your customers require!
