Man’s best friend and the world’s most loved 4x4s have been the perfect pairing since the first Series 1 Land Rovers came into service 70 years ago. Land Rover South Africa recognises the loving companionships dogs have given its customers over decades and has made a R40 000 donation to Animal Angels NPC so that animals in need can get the care they deserve.
As part of its wide range of Lifestyle accessories which includes a variety of clothing, gifts, luggage and kids’ toys, Land Rover also offers a selection of dog accessories through its HUE 166-based Heritage Collection and a partnership with premium clothing brand Barbour. In addition to the donation made to Animal Angels, a portion of all profits made from sales of these items for the next three months will also go to animals in need.
Charlene Venkatkumar, National Parts and Accessories Manager, Jaguar Land Rover South Africa, said: “I’m a dog owner and lover myself. When presented with a chance to help some of our less fortunate furry friends, Land Rover didn’t think twice about the opportunity. It’s an honour to be able to lend some assistance to South African dogs that can’t help themselves.”
Bonnie Robinson, Animal Angels founder, said: “Although animal rescue is an emotional environment to work in, the reward of seeing animals happy and healthy motivates us to steam ahead. Partnering with Land Rover was a real treat. We had such a wonderful time reuniting with our homed rescue dogs and their parents, and watching them strut their stuff in the latest pet range.”
Inspired by the world’s oldest Land Rover, which wore the number plate ‘HUE 166’, are two special items for canine companions. A dog collar and lead set comes in high quality black leather with contrasting green stitching to match the original HUE’s olive colour. Dogs’ names can also be engraved on a miniature HUE 166 number plate tag. Sold separately is a matching ceramic bowl, also finished in green with embossed HUE 166 logo on the front.
The Barbour range includes four stylish and functional items, all with unique Land Rover-specific tartan patterns incorporated into their designs. A secure dog harness and clip-on bandana are handsome accessories, while extra comfy and durable dog beds and jackets are made with Barbour’s classic waterproof wax cotton material. Each Barbour item is available in a variety of sizes so that all pooches from Yorkies to Great Danes can be as fashionable as the vehicles their owners drive.
Land Rover recruited the help of renowned pet photographer Emma O’Brien to capture the wagging tails of rescued dogs modelling the Land Rover gear.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to snap pictures of dogs all over the world. Some are even quite famous,” said Emma. “But sometimes the ungroomed drool and scraggle of genuine rescue dogs can make for even more moving photographs. Working with Land Rover on this project is an initiative I’m proud to part of, and I hope I’ve captured the genuine happiness of these re-homed pups.”
