International Girls in ICT Day

HONOR Technologies marked Girls in ICT Day by hosting 40 schoolgirls for a day of empowerment, mentorship, and hands-on tech experiences. The initiative aimed to address the gender gap in South Africa’s ICT sector, where women currently make up just 23% of the workforce.

In celebration of International Girls in ICT Day 24 April. Honor Technologies recently hosted an empowering event at its Johannesburg office, bringing together young girls from local communities to spark interest in careers in technology. This initiative is part of Honor’s broader mission to increase female representation in the ICT sector.

The event featured inspirational talks and workshops led by leading women in tech, including;

  • Nonkqubela Jordan-Dyani, Director-General, Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT),
  • Hellen Mabore Mogashoa, Corporate & Government Affairs Lead, Microsoft South Africa
  • Nomvuyiso Batyi, CEO, Association of Communications and Technology (ACT), and
  • Karabo Mohale,  Executive Deputy Chairperson, National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).

“This initiative is a strategic investment in a future where technology reflects all of society,” said Fred Zhou, CEO of HONOR Technologies.

With women comprising only 20% of ICT graduates and less than a fifth of tech leadership roles, such programmes are vital. “We’re building change, one girl at a time,” added Slindokuhle Mbuyisa, HONOR’s Government Relations Manager.

HONOR continues to lead in supporting women in STEM, ensuring inclusive growth in South Africa’s digital future.
