inDrive hosts driver training workshops to improve ride-hail journeys this festive season

Drivers on the inDrive ride-hailing platform gained valuable insights and hands-on guidance at a dedicated training workshop held on 12 December in Johannesburg. The session came at a time when demand typically rises during the festive season and provided drivers with clear standards to follow in every passenger interaction, reinforcing professionalism, safety, and comfort for both drivers and riders during this busy period and beyond.

“The training was particularly timely considering the festive period here, when demand spikes and every trip carries extra pressure,” says Ashif Black, Country Representative of inDrive. “Whether its basic etiquette on how to interact with passengers, how to maintain decorum in a stressful or tense situation on the road or adhering to safety protocols, the goal of the training is to ensure that inDrive rides go smoothly this festive period and beyond.”

Drivers engaged with real-life scenarios that commonly occur during trips, discussing practical approaches to handle each situation effectively. The training emphasized maintaining professionalism in every passenger interaction while ensuring a safe and comfortable experience, with particular attention to the needs and concerns of female passengers given the current safety climate in the country. Participants explored strategies for de-escalating potential conflicts, recognizing risky situations early, and building trust with passengers skills essential not only for their personal safety but also for fostering confidence in the service and encouraging repeat rides.

These standards speak to the everyday expectations of South African riders, who want a consistent experience, a clean and calm environment and a sense that the person driving respects them and the job. Industry research continues to show that users see ride-hailing as a safer and more reliable option when basic professional behaviour is consistent. In fact, a recent study conducted by Ipsos found that 90% of ride-hailing users consider ride-hailing services safer than conventional transport options like buses or traditional taxis, with 92 % saying they feel safer using ride-hail after dark.

By investing in driver training, inDrive reinforces its commitment to creating a safe, professional, and reliable ride-hailing experience for all passengers. These workshops not only strengthen drivers’ skills and confidence on the road but also contribute to building trust and loyalty among riders, ensuring that every trip, day or night, busy or quiet, is handled with care, competence, and respect.

As the country looks forward to its well-deserved festive break this December, inDrive hopes that the training will equip its drivers with useful tools to handle this period efficiently while giving passengers the reassurance they look for during the busiest travel weeks of the year.
