Gqeberha Artist first in SA to win HONOR Talents, Global Design Award

Global Technology brand, HONOR Technology shares some exciting news to kick off the year, with the announcement of their HONOR Talents: Global Design Awards winner.

Established in 2020,  HONOR Talents is the brand’s window for youth groups, advocating for youth empowerment and discovering talents in different fields. HONOR Talents currently includes two competitions, namely; The Global Design Award and Voice Maker Original Music Awards.  The Global Design Award’s call for entries rolled out between May and September 2024, with a total of over 9000+ global entrants. The Middle East Africa region had a total of 53 submissions, including Gqeberha raised, Zilungile Hanis’s artwork.

The call to entry for HONOR Talents in South Africa was in partnership with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), supporting HONOR through an information session addressing young people and a rigorous social media drive, calling for young artists to participate.

With each participant standing an equal chance at selection for the Judge’s Choice Award,  Zilungile’s artwork stood out the most, giving her star an opportunity to shine as she won the Judges Choice Award. The first and only South African to receive this prestigious global recognition.

Flying the flag high not only for all young aspirant South Africans but youth in Gqeberha, Zilungile Hanise was pleasantly surprised to learn that she’d won, “I’m really happy to be recognised and working closely with HONOR this year, I’m hoping that a lot of growth will come from this,” she said.

The programme is meant to promote innovation, social progression, and cultural exchange for youths across different fields, through using their creativity and gifts in science, technology, and art.

HONOR Technology South Africa CEO, Mr Fred Zhou, expressed his enthusiasm with the results of the awards, “I’m extremely proud that South Africa is well represented at such a large scale. As a brand, we not only believe in the power of investing in the talents of young people but showcasing how art and technology are able to integrate to create a lasting product, used by everyone, beyond the win. HONOR is committed to providing its resources to help expand Zilungile’s talent through this investment”, he said.

Zilungile Hanise’s prize includes a year of her artwork showcased on HONOR brand products, across the different provinces with a percentage of the purchases made, going directly to her for the year. She will also participate as a judge at the Global Design Award’s 2025.

The HONOR Talents hopes to work with young people around the world to create a more imaginative future, so that the world can get to witness and experience the gifts and passion of these young talents. While it’s in its fifth year running globally, the second annual Global Design Award 2025 call for entries in South Africa will be communicated, for more young talented youth to participate.
