Come this Saturday, 18 January 2025, the V&A Waterfront is set to become the centre of the global breaking scene as it gears up to host the prestigious FUJIFILM INSTAX Undisputed Masters. This will be the first time this international event makes it to African soil, promising a fusion of talent and athletic creativity.

Established in 2014, the Undisputed series has become synonymous with electrifying breaking competitions worldwide, having graced cities like São Paulo, London, Paris, New York and Tokyo. Now Cape Town joins this illustrious list, with the event free to attend for spectators of all ages.
The competition features open categories for Solo Men, Solo Women and Crews, offering the stage for local breakers to shine on a global scale.
A breaking experience like no other
What can those attending the event look forward to? Elvina “Vee” Da Silva, one of the local judges for the event, shares her perspective: “Expect an electrifying atmosphere filled with amazing talent, a diverse crowd and a genuine appreciation for the culture and community around breaking.”
Legendary Grandmaster Ready D, who will DJ during the competition, also spoke about the cultural significance of the event: “It’s thrilling to see a global event like this celebrating breaking in Cape Town, a city with such a rich history in Hip Hop culture. This is an opportunity to showcase our local talent on an international stage while connecting with top-tier dancers, DJs and enthusiasts from around the world.”
Those attending the event can also enjoy interactive experiences such as a photobooth activation by Instax South Africa, offering free commemorative photos via the Instax Biz App. The event will feature displays of Instax’s latest instant cameras and printers, with the winners of each category receiving the flagship Instax Mini Evo instant camera.
A spot at Japan World Finals on the cards
The Cape Town competition holds special significance since it is the final event before the World Finals in Tokyo during March 2025. The winners of the Solo Women and Solo Men categories will earn the opportunity to compete in the world finals, raising the stakes for participants and setting the stage for a defining moment in breaking culture across Africa.
The women’s category has emerged as one of the highlights of this breaking competition, featuring a line-up of top-tier international candidates battling for the win. The intense competition among these high-calibre participants underscores the growing influence and prominence of women in breaking, making this category the must-watch moment of the championship.
