Eduvos is excited to announce its participation in Comic Con Africa 2025, held in Johannesburg, taking place from 28 to 31 August at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec. As one of South Africa’s leading private higher education institutions, Eduvos will bring its passion for immersive, future-fit learning to Africa’s largest pop culture and gaming event.
Eduvos will showcase its future-facing qualifications, including robotics and machine learning, cyber security, and game design and development, to name a few. Visitors can expect dynamic activations, student-led esports tournaments, and real-time insights into how Eduvos is helping students turn passion into profession.
Comic Con Africa 2025 will also host two official Eduvos speaker sessions that spotlight the institution’s leadership in reshaping education through innovation. On Thursday, 28 August, Dr Nyx McLean, Eduvos’ Head of Research and Postgraduate Studies, will present “Reshaping the Future of Higher Education with AI” on the Pop-Taku Stage from 17:00 to 17:30. Their talk will explore how Eduvos is embedding artificial intelligence into its academic ecosystem and why artificial intelligence literacy is a significant competency for today’s learners.
“We don’t just teach our students about AI, we teach by using it,” says Dr McLean. “The future of education cannot be resistant to technology. We need to equip students with real-world, future-fit skills, which means AI literacy isn’t optional anymore. I look forward to discussing this in more detail at Comic Con, where I’ll be exploring how Eduvos is helping students critically and creatively engage with AI in ways that enhance learning and career readiness.”
On Friday, 29 August from 17:00 to 17:30, Dr Riaan Steenberg will join a panel entitled, “Where Gaming & Education Meet” along with Jaco Sauer (Co-Founder and GM of RGB Gaming) and Robert Njawaya (Eduvos & esports alum) to discuss the impact of esports and gaming on skills development and career readiness.
“Esports and gaming has grown beyond entertainment to become a fully-fledged ecosystem of innovation, creativity, and collaboration,” says Dr Steenberg. “At Eduvos, we see esports as a gateway to meaningful careers in tech, design, and digital enterprise. Through our qualifications and partnerships, we’re empowering students to turn gameplay into game-changing futures.”
Eduvos’ collaboration with RGB Gaming has played a key role in establishing esports as a valuable learning tool, both at high school and higher education levels. Since 2022, the partnership has aimed to bridge the gap between school-level gaming talent and tertiary-level opportunities. Eduvos now offers esports leagues across its campuses, as well as a Higher Certificate in Game Design and Development.
“At RGB Gaming, we believe esports has a powerful role to play in education,” adds Jaco Sauer, Co-Founder and General Manager at RGB Gaming. “Competitive gaming fosters critical thinking, teamwork, and digital literacy which are essential skills in today’s world. Esports provides a platform for students who might not participate in traditional sports to thrive, while also opening doors to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning and career pathways in the gaming industry.”
Throughout Comic Con Africa 2025, visitors to the Eduvos stand (F628 in Hall 6) will be able to interact with its academic teams and learn how they can join one of South Africa’s most innovative private higher education institutions. A student-led Marvel Rivals tournament will also be featured at the stand, further demonstrating Eduvos’ commitment to blending learning with live experience.
Eduvos invites Comic Con attendees to visit its stand from 28 to 31 August and to attend both speaker sessions on the Pop-Taku Stage. Whether you’re a gamer, tech enthusiast, or future-focused student, Eduvos is ready to show how learning can be as bold and creative as you are.
