PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa, 06 July 2017 – The recently launched Continental PremiumContact 6 tyre range may be new to the market, but it has already shaken up its segment by dominating the latest series of independent tyre tests conducted in three European countries.
“Despite the fact that tyres are the only link between the vehicle and the road, their importance is often underestimated,” says Niel Langner, marketing manager for Continental Tyre SA. “With excellent braking and all-round performance, Continental tyres such as the impressive new PremiumContact 6 make a direct contribution to greater road safety, and thus also to realising Continental’s strategic target of ‘Vision Zero’.

The proven performance of our cutting-edge tyres, such as the PremiumContact 6, play an important role in making our roads safer,” he adds.
Proving Continental’s leadership of the premium segment, the PremiumContact 6 outperformed 51 competitor tyres in German magazine Autobild’s comprehensive summer tyre test, using a BMW 3-Series. Focusing on the 225/50 R17 tyre segment, the magazine credited Continental’s impressive new PremiumContact 6 with “short braking distances in the wet and dry”, as well as “the best driving characteristics on wet and dry roads”.
The tyre was also praised for “dynamic handling performance with a precise steering response” and its “superior mileage” – the latter earning it the title of “Eco-champion” in the test. Notably, 13 tyres failed the safety tests due to “dangerously long” braking distances,” the magazine reported.
Another comparative test, conducted by Swedish automobile magazine Vi Bilägare, saw the PremiumContact 6 triumph over four competitors from European, American and Asian brands. The magazine tested the SUV-size 235/50 R18 fitted on a VW Tiguan, with the Continental offering earning praise for its short braking distances on dry asphalt, its good wet grip and its handling characteristics on wet and dry roads.
The PremiumContact 6 also led the field in a seven-way test conducted by renowned Italian magazine Quattroruote at its own ASC Proving Ground near Milan. The test relied on an Opel Astra fitted with 225/45 R17 tyres, and once again the German tyre emerged as the winner. It was credited with best-in-class performance, steering and stability in wet and dry conditions, and overall high grip levels.
The new PremiumContact 6 from Continental combines top-class safety characteristics with a high level of comfort, precise steering response and good environmental performance. To attain this new level of engineering, Continental developed new compounds, optimised the tread design by borrowing elements from the high-tech SportContact 6 ultra-high performance (UHP) tyre, and created a tread that makes for a particularly comfortable and quiet ride.
