Stor-Age Self Storage are working together with the City of Cape Town to set up national water collection points and a distribution network to aid those that are most in need in the event that day zero arrives.
All Stor-Age stores countrywide, 44 in total, have been set up as water collection points for those willing to contribute to the Cape Town water crisis. They invite the public to drop off store-bought, sealed five litre bottles of water, which will be stored and then distributed to and throughout Cape Town as required by the City.
Stor-Age company spokesperson Chris Oosthuizen comments, ‘’We all have a role to play in not only helping those most in need come day zero, but in preventing it all together. The Cape Town community is rallying behind this cause, but we need the national public to work with us during this crisis. We hope that by opening up all our stores as water collection points, and by using our distribution network to get the water where it needs to be, we can make a significant impact during what will be a very trying time for all Capetonions.

To drive social engagement and awareness, a website has also been setup under the name www.6bforme.com. Adds Oosthuizen, ‘’We invite the public to use #6BFORME to drive the conversation around this initiative, so that we can build momentum and make a real impact. The focus is on what level 6B water restrictions means for the individual, and what they can do to make a difference.’’
Various celebrities and influencers are also backing this campaign, with the #6BFORME quickly gaining traction. Comments former Springbok captain Jean de Villiers, ’It is important we create more awareness around the water crisis, and not only in the Cape. We all have a role to play, by doing our bit and being a water warrior. I fully support the #6BFORME initiative and I invite all South Africans to do the same,” he concluded.
