As a way of saying thank you to its customers, and to do its part for the environment, Acer, the global electronics giant, recently launched its ‘PlantATree’ campaign. For the campaign, Acer will plant a tree for every purchase made on its online store, Shopacer.co.za. Customers who make a purchase on Shopacer will receive a digital certificate and the GPS location of the tree that was planted in their name.
Acer has partnered with Greenpop to fulfil this pledge. The award-winning non-profit organisation is based in Cape Town, and it specialises in reforestation, urban greening and environmental art projects across sub-Saharan Africa. To date, they have planted over 134,765 trees in forests and urban areas.
Climate change remains one of the most significant challenges we all face. The rise in global temperatures is largely attributed to carbon dioxide emissions and will continue to have a severe impact on people, weather systems, ecosystems, wildlife and ocean temperatures if we do not reduce emissions or increase reforestation.
A study has shown that by planting half a trillion trees, we could capture roughly 205 gigatons of carbon in the atmosphere – which is enough to negate about 20 years of human-made carbon emissions at our current rate! This is why sustainable development campaigns, like Acer’s PlantATree campaign, are important as they show environmental responsibility from an industry leader and make a tangible contribution to reducing greenhouse gasses.
Verusha Joseph, Acer Online Account Manager, expands: “Climate change is real, and we hope that this campaign will give our customers a sense of pride in knowing that they can make a difference just by buying something online. With the GPS location of their tree being sent to them, they’ll even be able to visit the forest they helped make in years to come.”
From laptops to computer accessories, anyone can have a tree planted in their name and #JoinTheTreevolution by making a purchase on Shopacer.co.za before the end of May which is a win for customers, and a win for the environment.
