I have wanted to go to Durban for a while and just last week I was in Durban for the first time. I was offered accommodation at Garden Court Umhlanga which turned out to be the perfect place to stay. Let’s find out why!
The Garden Court Umhlanga Hotel, which is part of the Tsogo Sun group of hotels, is situated in Umhlanga in Umhlanga Rocks on the North Coast of KZN. The hotel is in the city hub close to the Gateway shopping centre and also close to the Umhlanga beaches. The hotel is perfectly suited to those bringing their partners with for work trips. There is ample areas for those looking to work such as the conference centre and boardrooms but also loads to do for those looking to relax.
For those looking to relax, there is an outdoor heated pool with lounging area, a bar, a restaurant as well as seating inside.
Upon entering the hotel, you are greeted by a spacious well lit interior. The decor of the hotel is really modern and stylish. Checking in was quick and easy.
The hotel has 204 rooms of different sizes (81 standard rooms, 115 standard rooms with 2 double beds and 8 suites). All rooms have an En-suite bathroom, air conditioning/heater, complimentary tea, dstv, hairdryer and a safe.
I stayed in a suite which had a comfortable double bed, so comfortable I overslept in the morning. I really enjoyed the balcony which had beautiful sea views. My room had a comfortable couch and a coffee machine which made delicious coffee. While there was free Wi-Fi, there was a cap of 350MB or so, which was too little for my usage (I am a heavy data user). Though, you can buy more data so it wasn’t the end of the world. A knock at the door and I was given some welcome snacks and a bottle of wine, such a nice touch!
I didn’t make use of the gym but it was well kitted out for those that want to work out!
There is free underground parking which is easy to access but just remember what floor you parked on. I forgot and had to go from floor to floor 🙂
Overall I really enjoyed my stay at Garden Court Umhlanga. The staff were friendly and efficient, my room was super comfortable and I felt safe. I also had a really good view which always makes a hotel room that much better! The hotel is suited for business and leisure travellers. If you are heading to Durban, you should consider the Garden Court Umhlanga.
