About the Designer and Design Profile of Beoplay A1
Designed by the award-winning Danish designer Cecilie Manz, Beoplay A1 was designed by keeping the synergy between form & function as the design beacon. Cecilie Manz has always been passionate about designing small objects and used this passion as the main design concept of Beoplay A1.
The physical form of Beoplay A1 was the result of an exhaustive design process geared towards maximising portability while at the same time achieving a solid physical platform . Hence, the flat-cylindrical shape of Beoplay A1 was decided on at a very early stage of the design process. Cecilie Manz and her team wanted the speaker to feel smooth and soft in the hands of those who handle Beoplay A1 and to withstand the ruggedness of everyday life.
Cecilie Manz also designed other B&O PLAY products such as Beoplay A2, Beolit 15 and several others.
Truly Portable Design
Beoplay A1 weighs a mere 600g and with a dimension aspect of only 4.8cm x13.3cm its small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. With no protruding buttons or legs to snap off and a smooth finishing to the exterior of the speaker, it resembles a sanded stone with no sharp edges that makes it easy to store in your bag or even slip into your pocket.
The design concept was to make Beoplay A1 your ultimate travel companion. Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast, party starter or fashionista, Beoplay A1 is designed to accompany you anywhere, to add more sound and bass to your life!
Apart from taking Beoplay A1 outdoors, the ultra-portable Bluetooth speaker is great indoors too. Hang it on your wall or put it on a table and let Beoplay A1 add that finesse to your environment with its good looks and great sound.
Premium Robust Materials
Beoplay A1 is made out of two materials that Bang & Olufsen has been using for many years – aluminium & polymer – imperative to the quality and durability of the portable Bluetooth speaker and our other products. The all-aluminium dome of Beoplay A1 ensures a light, rigid and protective housing for the delicate drivers and electronics inside and it gives Beoplay A1 the beauty & strength needed to endure the pressures of everyday life.
The base is made of a uni-body, double moulded polymer, specially shaped to ensure a good foundation that forms a strong protective shell for the delicate components inside. Polymer is a tactile material/molecule composed of many repeated subunits that is somewhere between hard & soft and warm & cold. The reason for using polymer? It ensures great acoustics & a strong wireless connection.
The strap for Beoplay A1 is made out of leather which not only makes it great to hold but it will also age with style, just like your favourite pair of boots.
Sound Profile
As always, sound quality is at the forefront of everything we do so that our speakers deliver true Bang & Olufsen signature sound.
With a sound output peaking at 2×140 watts – the art of squeezing so much power out of a small body lies behind the design of the speaker to accommodate the drivers & amps. Armed with a 1×3.5” bass woofer & a 1×3/4” tweeter, these drivers are amplified by a 2×30 watt class D amplifier that delivers the optimal output.
To ensure that Beoplay A1 delivers true 360-degree sound dispersion, we equipped a unique & dedicated Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithm, which mimics the sound of a full stereo experience. As a result of this, the sound will always be equally good from this little speaker.
To achieve optimal bass, the 1×3.5” woofer has an aluminium core and a powerful magnetic system that is amplified. So, even if you listen to your favourite tunes at a low volume, the bass dispersed will give off a full range effect with great character.

Microphone & Battery-Life
Beoplay A1 has a built-in microphone for making calls, and because of the rimmed design around the base of the unit, the microphone gives uniform speech sensitivity 360° around the speaker. This makes voice recognition at the other end of the call much easier. Thanks to the microphone you’ll also be able to activate Apple Siri and Google Now voice commands by simply pressing a button.
With all the available features and latest technology on-board Beoplay A1, one would question the reliability of the battery-life. No need to worry, Beoplay A1 can give you up to 24 hours (moderate volume level) of playback and this is due to the inventive amp control. The Adaptive Power Management makes it possible to feed the exact amount of power needed by the amplifiers – and only when they need it. This means that the power supply changes dynamically for increased battery-life.
