Roman’s Pizza is taking its visual world beyond the pizza box with RP KNEAD, a limited-edition streetwear label launching exclusively online today. Its debut collection, Drop 001 connects kneading dough with shaping a new label, translating pizza-inspired imagery into apparel for South Africa’s fashion-forward youth. The tees and hoodies are made locally; the collection’s French-sourced corduroy caps follow in mid-November. “The starting point was simple: what would our pizza world look like if you could wear it? We’ve taken familiar characters, colours and everyday moments – from deliveries to sharing a slice – and turned them into a collection with its own personality. The humour makes it recognisable; the fit and fabric give people a reason to keep wearing it,” says Jarred de Klerk, Roman’s Pizza Head of Studio.
Limited pieces, no reruns
Drop 001 is a strictly limited run, with no restocks planned. Once the pieces sell out, the collection will not be repeated. Future drops will introduce new designs rather than reproduce the first collection.
Streetwear first
Roman’s Pizza’s familiar colours and characters take on a new form through hand-drawn illustrations, screen-printed artwork on the tees and hoodies, and embroidery on the corduroy caps.
Designed in South Africa, made for the street
Head of Studio Jarred Wade designed the collection in-house, working with Soli, a manufacturer based in Cape Town’s Bo-Kaap, where it works with local artisans. The tees and hoodies are made in South Africa from locally sourced fabrics. The premium corduroy caps are made in France and sourced through Soli.
Drop 001 brings three streetwear staples into the mix
Available in unisex sizes S to XXL, the Oversized Tee pairs 260gsm pre-shrunk cotton with dropped shoulders, while the Heavyweight Hoodie uses 350gsm fleece. A one-size corduroy cap completes the collection. Five graphic stories draw on pizza delivery, sharing food and music, brought together by blue, red, navy and burgundy and the RP monogram.
The Oversized Tee and Heavyweight Hoodie are available exclusively at www.knead.romanspizza.co.za with nationwide courier delivery. The tee costs R399 and the hoodie R899, including VAT. The Premium Corduroy Cap will follow in mid-November at R199, including VAT.
