Ocean View Drive, Cape Town – A quick-thinking act of bravery by local resident Xanpher George Krige averted a potential tragedy on Ocean View Drive on Saturday Night 12 July 2025, as he single-handedly tackled a house fire, saving three lives and their home using a hosepipe.
According to a heartfelt Facebook post by his mother, Audrey Tessa Coetzee Krige, Xanpher was alerted to screams from his elderly neighbours’ home around midnight. Without a moment’s hesitation, he grabbed a hosepipe and bravely entered the burning lounge, confronting the blaze directly.

“My Son, My Hero! ❤️” Audrey wrote, expressing her immense pride. “Huge shoutout to my brave son, Xanpher Krige! Last night at about 12 He heard his neighbors, an elderly lady and her family, screaming due to a fire in their lounge on Ocean View Street. Without hesitation, he grabbed his hosepipe, jumped into action, and bravely entered the burning house to put out the fire.”
Thanks to Xanpher’s immediate and courageous response, the fire was extinguished before it could spread further, preserving the property and, more importantly, ensuring the safety of the three residents inside.
