From new devices arriving in South Africa and on-the-ground engagement with fans, to new AIoT products introduced for the very first time in the country, 2023 was a very busy year for TECNO and itel
Another year is coming to an end, and what a year it has been! Looking back on the journey that TECNO and itel have taken this year in South Africa, and the many highlights along the way, here are a few standout moments to revisit.
Bringing the SPARK to Life
The introduction of the SPARK 10 Series in South Africa signified another major milestone in TECNO’s device journey. SPARK 10 Pro, SPARK 10 5G, and SPARK 10C were warmly welcomed with eagerness by fans of the brand, who got to experience the devices in-person at the many shopping mall and university campus activations that took place across the country.
Standout features of these devices include a 32MP selfie camera on the SPARK 10 Pro, larger memory and long-lasting battery life, Memory Fusion technology (which draws unused read-only memory and channels it to random access memory operations to enhance the device’s performance and multi-tasking capacity), and pleasing on the eye aesthetics and design.
Alongside the SPARK 10 Series devices came two others, SPARK GO 2023 and POP 7, emphasising TECNO’s aim to cater to everybody no matter their budget.
Smart Accessories and Wearables for the First Time Ever
Another exciting development for TECNO in South Africa this year was the introduction for the first time ever of smart accessories and wearables into the country. These included the TECNO Sonic 1 Active True Wireless Earphones, the TECNO Buds 3 earphones, the TECNO Watch 2, the TECNO Square S3 speaker, the TECNO 4G Portable WiFi TR109 router, the Snow Robot Home Security WiFi Camera TH300, a 3 in 1 USB cable, Type C USB cable, and Micro USB cable.
The excitement grew when a laptop, the TECNO Megabook T1, and a 20,000mAh power bank were also displayed at a TECNO Showcase event in November, with more accessories and wearables planned for introduction into South Africa next year.
More Choices for South Africans
TECNO wasn’t the only brand bringing more choice for South Africans in 2023, as itel got in on the action as well. Seven devices were launched, including the P40, A60, A60s, A05s, A04, A18, and V52. Value for money, durability and affordability are just some of the cornerstones of the itel brand, which are reflected in these new phones.
New Look, Same Better Life
In November, itel underwent a transformative rebranding initiative, unveiling a fresh new logo, described as youthful, energetic, and forward-looking, to celebrate the brand’s 16th anniversary. Blending modern aesthetics, while keeping the iconic speech bubble design that fans of the brand have grown to know, which symbolises itel’s dedication to communication and connectivity, the rebrand was accompanied by fans submitting their own creative designs and fan art.
The Year Ahead
2024 is shaping up to be another exciting year for TECNO and itel in South Africa with significant developments as well, including a major launch scheduled for the second quarter of the year (be on the lookout for more news about that). Both brands will continue to bring affordable, reliable and great value for money, smart tech to fans.
