Lenovo and Commvault: Fortifying South African Enterprises in an Evolving Cybersecurity Landscape

Commvault, an enterprise data protection leader for global businesses, has announced new highly reliable backup and recovery solutions for enterprise organizations, powered by Lenovo technology.

Paired with Lenovo’s award-winning hardware systems, Commvault is delivering simplicity to IT teams with data protection and management from a single view, while giving CIOs flexibility, reliability, and blazing performance at immense scale with better TCO and faster time to value.

“This partnership provides us with an invaluable opportunity, not just globally but locally here in South Africa, to address the challenges faced by our growing joint customer base. It is a true signal of our intent to partner with such a significant player like Lenovo. We plan to leverage this locally in conversations with customers and together will provide industry-leading backup and recovery solutions,” said Kate Mollett, Senior Director, Commvault Africa.

With digital transformation becoming part of the new business normal in South Africa it’s become more important for end users to rethink their approach to cybersecurity. According to Interpol’s 2022 Africa Cyberthreat Assessment report, South Africa experienced 230 million cyber threat detections last year, making  it the leading country on the continent to witness frequent cyber threats.

The average cost of a data breach for local companies reached an all-time high of R49.45 million this year, an 8% increase over 2022. Moreover, intangible costs such as damage to brand reputation can have long-lasting impacts that are challenging to quantify.

As cyber threats become more sophisticated and prevalent, companies like Lenovo and Commvault are taking significant strides to combat against them, while emphasising the need for strong security.

Dean Wolson, General Manager of Infrastructure Solutions Group at Lenovo Africa, expresses the significance of Lenovo’s contribution to enterprises in their partnership with Commvault, which is renowned for its extensive cloud-native integrations and its consistent recognition as a leader in the field.  He states, “Lenovo’s role in this partnership is to fortify and future-proof the cyber landscape for enterprises. It represents a pivotal step forward for South Africa in the face of escalating cybersecurity threats.”

“By combining our hardware expertise with Commvault’s exceptional capabilities, we are delivering a resilient solution that safeguards critical data and supports a wide range of applications, databases, and infrastructures,” he adds.

Now and in the future, enterprises can expect to be serviced with the highest level of cyber resilience and data protection. From secure hardware components engineered by some of the industry’s top minds to advanced software defences, the zero-trust architecture underpinning these solutions is designed to continually evolve against the ever-changing threat landscape.
