Justice League Snyder Cut looks like a different film

The first trailer of Zack Snyder’s special director’s cut for Justice League has dropped, and, at first glance, it looks like everything fans have been asking for.

The Justice League is one of the most popular properties in the comic book game, and it has had a significant impact on popular culture across the globe. The crime-fighting team that includes Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, among others, have featured in multiple video game titles, such as the highly-acclaimed Young Justice: Legacy released in 2013 and fighting game Injustice 2, which came out the same year as the original film.

Besides that, in the entertainment industry, there is a board game titled Justice League: Dawn of Heroes and even a pinball machine. The huge influence of Justice League can be noticed in the iGaming industry too, as there is an official slot game with the same title that can be found on some no deposit bonus online casinos such as Europa Casino.

So when the news dropped that the crime-fighting team was getting its film in 2017, fans were ecstatic. However, the production of the movie did not go exactly as planned.

Due to other DC Comics-based movies, such as Batman vs Superman, struggling at the box office at the time, the studio behind Justice League was putting pressure on Snyder to make the film more light-hearted and less dark.

The director disagreed, and there was a constant back-and-forth between him and the studio until the unfortunate passing of Snyder’s daughter during post-production. He decided that spending time with family was more important than fighting with a film studio, so he left the project and was replaced by Joss Whedon.

Whedon was more amenable to the studio’s suggestions and ordered several re-shoots at great expense and, when the film was finally released, it was clear that it had taken several steps away from Snyder’s original vision.

Additionally, it was not well-received by fans, although it was somewhat of a box office success bringing in more than double its budget of $300-million, and it is rated 6.3 out of 10 on IMDB at the time of writing.

This led to a substantial and lengthy campaign by fans of the franchise demanding that the original Zack Snyder cut of the film be released to the public, which is finally coming to fruition with a high-definition streaming release on 18 March on HBO Max.

To mark the announcement, Warner Brothers also released a trailer to build some hype, and the film will be vastly different from the one that was released in 2017. For one thing, it is reportedly four hours long and will have an R-rating.

Aside from that, there aren’t many details about the upcoming release, but there are certainly some things we can glean from the trailer. For one thing, it seems pretty clear they will not be using any of the extra footage Whedon shot for the 2017 film.

Next, it appears as if Superman will finally make an appearance in his fabled black suit. Not only that, but the film will likely feature an all-new villain, Darkseid, who was teased in an early trailer for the original film but was cut by Whedon before release.

The release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League comes at a significant time for WarnerMedia. While HBO Max has an excellent active subscriber base of around 17-million worldwide, it is a number that pales compared to the likes of Netflix and Disney+.

When streaming releases are becoming more common for major motion pictures, it is more important than ever for streaming services to drive sub numbers or risk being left by the wayside. This new cut of Justice League has the potential to provide some truly unique content to a platform that desperately needs a boost.
