Today, Nissan announced that two of its accomplished crossover vehicles, the X-Trail and the Qashqai, garnered yet another accolade as they were recognised among the top 25 best-selling vehicles in the world.

Jato Dynamics, a global automotive research firm, released its list of world vehicle sales for 2017 and listed the Nissan crossovers among the most successful vehicles.

“As a pioneer in the crossover segment, we’re proud to continue leading in this category across the world,” said Mike Whitfield, Managing Director, Nissan Group of Africa. “In South Africa specifically, we’ve launched new versions of the X-Trail and Qashqai into the market in the past six months, and we’re already seeing the vehicles resonating with customers.”

The Nissan X-Trail increased sales by six percent last year, with 814,495 units sold globally in 2017, making this premium SUV the fourth best-selling vehicle in the world. The state-of-the-art crossover sports several Nissan Intelligent Mobility advancements, which combine smart technology with innovative features to provide drivers with a safer and more comfortable drive.

The Nissan Qashqai was also acknowledged as sales increased by an impressive 19 percent last year. Nissan’s ultimate urban crossover has also secured Car of the Year titles in 19 countries and garnered more than 80 awards since it was first launched globally in 2007. The new Qashqai was launched in South Africa at the beginning of February and has already received significant praise from local motoring journalists.

Combined, Nissan’s crossover and SUV sales exceeded two million units globally in 2017.

“Both the Qashqai and X-Trail have a loyal fanbase across the world and it’s therefore pleasing to see how Nissan’s strategy to make our crossovers smarter and safer with Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology is paying off. Both vehicles have an array of features that ensure customers aren’t forced to compromise on either off-road prowess, or comfort and this is clearly having a positive impact on sales,” said Whitfield.
