It is all systems go as Cybercellar.com gears up for Black Friday, the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season, on Friday, 25 November. This day traditionally sees many online as well as brick-and-mortar stores offering substantial discounts for one day only.

Jumping the queue, Cybercellar will go even further with deals for the whole week, already starting on Monday, 21 November. Each day will have once-off “one day only deals” – so make sure you do not miss out!

”Shoppers can rest easy that we are ready for the influx of online traffic to our website for our Black Friday daily deals.  Unlike many sites who crashed under the pressure, last year we easily managed the full four days, in particular Black Friday and Cyber Monday and will without doubt do the same this time around,” says Gavin Forsyth, ‎Chief Marketing Officer at Cybercellar.

Black Friday, taking place the day after the traditional American Thanksgiving holiday, has been observed in its current form since 1932. Retailers will typically be open for business for a full 24 hours and offer big discounts on products. Images of Black Friday have been displayed around the world showing manic scenes of endless lines and fighting masses trying to claim their share of promotional offers.

South Africans got their first taste of Black Friday on local soil in 2012. Interestingly, it was an eCommerce brand taking up the baton, announcing huge discounts for the day on their site. The following year saw the trend picking up pace as many other online retailers jumped on the bandwagon and slashed their prices for the day.

The fact that local online retailers were the first to start Black Friday promotions in South Africa stands in sharp contrast to other online sites across the globe that are more prone to cash in on Cyber Monday promotions.

This is the equivalent to Black Friday in the brick-and-mortar stores, but sees the promotions running on the Monday after Thanksgiving. The trend was first seen in 2005 when Shop.org noted in a news release that many online retailers were seeing increased sales especially on the Monday after Thanksgiving. This has since led to Cyber Monday being the dominant online shopping day all over the world.

The first South African brick-and-mortar take up of Black Friday occurred in 2014 with Checkers running Black Friday promotions.

Since then, this shopping day has grown exponentially in popularity. More retailers are implementing a mass promotional strategy and give customers some of the lowest discounts before the Christmas season starts.

Do not miss out on some of the greatest deals of the year – make Cybercellar  your go-to for sweet Black Friday buys.  You will have the opportunity to stock up on Christmas goodies to get you ready for the upcoming festive season!
