An urban vehicle perfect for everyday driving and recreation, bundling youthful styling and technology with a high level of functionality. The sporty yet compact SUV with allroad genes and coupé design is a new entrant into the premium A0-SUV segment of the market and it’s one all-rounder determined not to fit the boxes.

Exterior Design

Its distinctive geometric design language exhibits a clear and independent character within the Q family creating a design that’s sharp and edgy. At the front, a strong image is created by the Singleframe grille in octagonal design that is positioned high and complemented by large air inlets. Especially eye-catching is the low roof that descends and merges into the C-pillars with colour-offset blades which accentuates the sportiness of the Audi Q2. The rear gains its sporty appeal with a long roof edge spoiler and an extended rear diffuser.

In the side view, the high window line is especially striking as are the concave flanks in the door area. The latter emphasize the wheel housings and thereby the quattro character of the compact SUV. The vehicle measures 1.51 metres tall and 1.79 metres wide. The overhangs are short with a vehicle length of 4.19 metres and a wheelbase of 2.60 metres. 12 exterior colours are also available with two colours, Coral Orange and Manhattan Grey, exclusive to the Audi Q2.

Interior Design

The interior of the Audi Q2 continues the angular design language of the exterior and offers space for five occupants. It instantly impresses with the top-quality materials and workmanship customary at Audi, as well as exemplary ergonomics. The luggage compartment can accommodate 405 litres of cargo and can be increased to 1,050 litres when the rear bench seat back is folded. Options include a power tailgate and a three-way split of the rear bench backrests. The middle segment also serves as a through-loading facility – practical for transporting longer length items.

Once again, the highlight of the interior is the Audi Virtual Cockpit which depicts the most important driving-relevant information in high resolution on a 12.3-inch TFT screen. The driver can switch between two views by pressing the “View” button on the multifunction steering wheel. In classic mode, the instruments appear as large as the usual analogue displays. In infotainment mode, a central window predominates that provides more space for the navigation map or shows clearly arranged lists for the phone, radio and audio sectors.

In addition to the fully digital instrument cluster and top infotainment system, a third technology from the full-size class can optionally be implemented – the head-up display. It projects important information onto a glass panel in the driver’s direct field of vision. This information can include navigation data, the vehicle speed and warning messages.

In infotainment, the new Audi Q2 once again sets new standards. The MMI radio plus with the non-retractable monitor is standard equipment. There is a choice of two different MMI Navigation systems to choose from, a basic version or an advanced version. Both versions include Audi connect and Bluetooth streaming, the only difference being the MMI touch pad and the level of radio system. With Audi connect, many online functions are brought into the car such as Google Earth and Google Street View, point of interest search and the ability to turn the car into a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 8 devices. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto round off the infotainment offering by seamlessly integrating into the car via the Audi smartphone interface system.

Driver assistance systems

A number of sophisticated driver assistance systems are also available for the Audi Q2 for the first time in the A0 segment. Audi pre sense front uses radar to recognize hazardous situations that can occur with crossing pedestrians or other vehicles in front of the car. The system warns the driver and initiates hard braking if necessary – down to a standstill at low speeds.

The driver also gets additional support from the latest-generation park assist. It can maneuver the compact SUV into parallel and perpendicular parking spaces. Cross traffic assist rear comes into play when the driver wants to reverse out of a perpendicular parking spot. It monitors the traffic behind the car with its radar sensors. Adaptive cruise control with stop & go function and Audi side assist round out the offering of driver assistance systems available.

Engines:

Audi South Africa will offer a range of 2 petrol engines and 1 diesel engine for the Audi Q2. The smallest petrol engine in the Q2 lineup is the 1.0 TFSI. It produces 85 kW and 200 Nm of torque from a displacement of 999 cc. Claimed fuel consumption for this engine is 5.1 litres per 100km while it is exempt from CO? taxation with emissions figures of 117 grams per kilometre. Both a manual and S tronic transmission is available on this model.

Above that is the 1.4 TFSI producing 110 kW and 250 Nm of torque and also comes with cylinder on demand (COD) technology. Combined with the manual six-speed transmission, the COD system deactivates the second and third cylinder at loads up to 100 Nm and while coasting when engine speed is between 2,000 and 3,200 rpm. If the dual-clutch transmission is installed, cylinder deactivation occurs sooner, between 1,400 and 3,200 rpm. With S tronic, the engine consumes on average 5.2 litres of fuel and emits 119 grams CO? per kilometer; with the manual gearbox these figures are 5.4 litres and 124 grams CO2 per kilometre.

The sole diesel engine on offer is in the form of the 2.0 TDI producing 105 kW and 350 Nm of torque. This engine will only be available in S tronic transmission.

The 1.4T FSI engine is available at launch in February in South Africa, while the 1.0T FSI and 2.0TDI engines will follow in May 2017. Additionally, a Sport trim line is available optionally on the 1.0T FSI, while this trim is standard on the 1.4T FSI and 2.0TDI.

Body and Chassis:

With the 1.0 TFSI engine and manual transmission, the compact SUV weighs just 1,205 kg. Hot-shaped steels give the passenger cell a strong backbone and high rigidity. The noise level on-board is low thanks to the vibration-optimized body and Audi’s high level of competence in aeroacoustics and aerodynamics. For an SUV, the Q2 boasts a superior cd figure of 0.30.

Progressive steering is standard in all versions – in this system, the toothing of the steering rack is designed to vary the steering gear ratio according to the steering input. With large steering movements it is more direct, making driving more dynamic.

The optional Audi drive select handling system lets the driver choose between five modes: auto, comfort, dynamic, efficiency and individual. It influences a variety of vehicle systems, including the steering and gear shift characteristics as well as the optional suspension with adaptive damper control. With ESC Offroad mode and nearly 15 centimeters (5.9 in) of ground clearance, the Q2 is also well-suited to rugged terrain.

Individual style: exterior and interior

Q2 customers can configure the look of their car according to their wishes in many aspects. Add-on parts give the SUV a sporty or typical off-road appearance. The Q2 is even further differentiated through the Audi exclusive programme or by fitting the S line sport package.

Audi Genuine Accessories as either factory-installed options or retrofit equipment from an Audi partner offer additional customization solutions: add-on parts of carbon, the offroad style package and film designs are available for many areas of the body.

Customers also have many ways to express their personal style in the elaborately crafted interior. Colours like yellow, orange and red may be selected for inlays, sections of the seats and contrasting stitching. Inlays are also available in brushed aluminum. Seat upholstery choices range from high-end fabrics to fine Nappa leather. At night, the optional LED lighting package makes the interior especially attractive, LED light guides illuminate the sculpted inlays at the front of the instrument panel and the centre console. Drivers can use the MMI to choose from ten colors.

Halogen lights are available as standard on all Audi Q2 models with LED headlights and dynamic turn signals available as an option.

A limited run of Q2 Edition #1 models will be available in quarter 3 2017. The Edition #1 package will comprise of the sporty S line exterior package, body colour in Quantam Grey, C pillar in black with white rings, 19-inch black rotor wheels, LED headlights amongst other interior design enhancements.
